This is a remarkable story of a young woman's determination to push past the obstacles that
could have defeated her.
Early in this journey you will realize there was something different about Virginia.  She was a unique, outspoken and misunderstood person that was out-casted from her family.  Her dreams and goals were way ahead of her time and many people didn't understand that and laughed at her.  As you follow her journey thru the years you will feel her pain, suffering, loss and betrayal.  She was born in 1914 and completed her life journey in 1992.
Virginia's daughter is now telling the story of her mother's life. The result is The Highest Peak, which has been taken from the memoir Virginia Lee started on January 17, 1965 and completed in 1969.

Kathy Lee Pair's memoir of her mother, Virginia `Ginnie' Lee, wholly and totally won me over. Bearing an esoteric premise... peering into the human drive and soul, she truly has preserved, and served, her mother's voice well.

People have devoted their lives to understanding what moves the spirit, and here Ginnie artlessly canvasses over her life sharing among `the alp' of motives, her private conversations with God. Halfway through reading I had to laugh at myself because I couldn't tell who cried more; me or Ginnie. And it's not that I haven't heard relatives in my own family speak as Ginnie. I actually could hear and see her voice. It was breathing through her words right there on each page. This was what touched me most.

Many questions may surface while reading Virginia's memoir, but none transcend the level(s) of consciousness raised. `Mr. Harrell' in `A New Beginning,' and Elizabeth `at the end' are remarkable examples, among others such as Ginnie drinking the `tainted' water. This memoir must be experienced. I expect it to be among the top ten best books I've read this year.

God is good. I cried a few times wondering how can people be so evil to their own? I'm glad Virginia kept her faith in God I think I would have given up.
Keep going! Those are the words that stuck with me as I read Virginia's story. She knew from whom she came and what blessed her in the midst of trying circumstances. The themes of family, trust, and love - with their happy and not so happy endings were mingled nicely throughout this book.
